My aim as a therapist is to assist my clients to achieve their optimal fitness and general well being. I endeavour to do this through the use of Emmett Technique, Bowen Therapy and various forms of Massage. I will often use a combination of some of these therapies to achieve the best results. These therapies are appropriate to use on anyone, from newborn babies to the elderly.

    MASSAGE THERAPY

Massage is a widely recognised and accepted form of treatment which is used for relaxation and therapeutic purposes. A relaxing, tactile therapy such as massage can help to address today’s many health problems which stem from the stress of living in our busy, modern times.

In general terms, massage helps to restore the structural balance of the body and it helps to relieve stress and promotes emotional, mental and spiritual well-being giving rise to the “aah” factor felt at the end of massage.

More specifically, massage is beneficial in a whole host of areas.

    Massage:
    • Reduces pain
    • Increases metabolism
    • Promotes circulation of blood and lymph
    • Induces relaxation
    • Reduces oedema
    • Improves range of joint motion
    • Aids recovery from exercise
    • Aids stress management
    • Can soften scar tissue and loosen adhesions
    • Can address hypertension
    • Improves sleep patterns
    • Gives an improved feeling of wellness

These benefits are achieved by different types of touch and by addressing different areas of the body. Some types of movements help to relax muscles, some aid in clearing blood and lymph blockages, encouraging more freedom of flow in the relevant vessels, while others can give the body a “wake up call”.

The functioning of the major systems of the body is enhanced through massage.

The muscles in the body can become more supple, flexible and resilient as massage encourages blood circulation. This increases the availability of oxygen and nutrients to the muscles and helps to remove waste products, reducing muscle fatigue and post exercise soreness.

Considering the many benefits that massage can provide, it is little wonder, then, that people are heard to say “I could do with a good massage”.

    WHAT IS EMMETT TECHNIQUE?

The Emmett Technique is a unique body therapy which offers an alternative treatment to ease pain and discomfort and may benefit many other conditions.

The treatment can be done fully clothed and incorporates a gentle physical release of muscle groups whilst using a verbal approach to create attitude change.

    How does it work?

The technique involves the application of light pressure at specific points and in sequences that enable the gentle physical release of muscle groups.

What if you use other therapies?

The technique works in conjunction with all therapies or can be used on its own. The technique often allows other therapies to work more efficiently. Client comfort and accurate assessment are important elements of this therapy.

    WHAT IS BOWEN THERAPY?

Bowen Therapy is a soft tissue remedial therapy that stimulates energy flow, empowering the body’s resources to heal itself. It is a treatment that works on all levels of the body and creates a deep sense of overall relaxation.

The treatment can be performed through light clothing and consists of a series of gently rolling connective tissue moves, using light touch.

Since Bowen Therapy is an holistic approach and addresses the body as a whole, rather than merely the presenting symptom, it can affect physical, mental and emotional aspects of each person being treated.
